Power Station Portfolio Completed

GEG has recently completed the detailed Phase I/II geotechnical and environmental assessment of eighteen standby power station across the UK for a major multinational energy supplier. Many of these structures, which had relatively low settlement tolerances, were located in areas of marshland with up to 30 metres of soft fluvial clays. Given the soft nature of the clays near surface, an added complication was designing piling mats for the piling of the slab and working platforms for cranes to lift the 50 tonne generators into place. These factors, together with a very short development programme, led to a challenging but interesting series of projects which GEG successfully completed. Anthony Marriott, GEG's Managing Director stated 'We're really pleased to have been involved in such a high profile infrastructure project to help enable the UK to keep 'lights on' during times of peak load on the grid'.
