GEG have been commissioned by Mid Devon District Council to undertake the remediation of five properties in Devon which were constructed in the 1980's on a former timber treatment works. The remediation scheme is being jointly funded by the residents and MDDC under the requirements of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 Part 2A legislation to reduce the risk to residents and Controlled Waters from underlying contamination previously identified on the site by GEG. The works incorporate the removal and replacement of near surface contaminated spoil, in-situ oxidation of the hydrocarbon contamination and long term monitoring of the properties for vapours. GEG's Associate Director Mark Rawlings comments: 'Despite the lack of funding anticipated from DEFRA, GEG have designed a cost effective remediation scheme to enable a significant reduction in the environmental risk to the existing residents'.
